Kids in grades K – 6 can sign up to read with a Teen Reading Buddy!

We are very excited to continue our Teen Reading Buddy program into the summer and beyond. It’s a great way for kids to practice reading aloud, and to keep up their reading skills. Teen Reading Buddies are supportive, enthusiastic listeners who can help your child practice reading here at the library. Children who participate can sign up to read with a Buddy for up to 30 minutes at a time. Kids can choose their own books to read with their buddy, who will listen and help sound out words and assist with comprehension. Pre-readers can choose a book, or several, to listen to as their Reading Buddy reads to them!
Our Teen Reading Buddies are Cape Elizabeth High School Students who have a particular interest in working with children and reading. Each Teen Reading Buddy keeps their own appointment calendar, which you can view below. Just click on an available time, and fill out the online form to make an appointment for your child to read with their buddy here at the library.

(Note: because our Reading Buddies have variable schedules, they may not open up reading appointments until the start of a week, so if you see that they have no availability, it may be because they haven’t yet updated their calendar for the week, so keep checking. If you are having trouble finding an available time, please email Rachel Davis for assistance.)

Carter: I have always worked with kids to help them either with softball or other things. I am involved in a nursing program and love to read. I am involved in the Gay-Straight Alliance at the high school, where I will be a senior this fall. I love to crack jokes! Click here to make an appointment to read with me!
Caroline: Hello! My name is Caroline. I am a rising sophomore at Cape Elizabeth High School. My family and I just moved here this summer, but I have been coming up for the summers since I was little. I play soccer and tennis and I love the beach. Kids are curious and endearing and I love being around them. Since eighth grade I have worked at a Kumon Learning Center where I tutor kids in reading and math. Lila: Hi! My name is Lila and I am going to be a junior at CEHS. I am really excited to help out with the reading buddy program this summer and hopefully get to share my love of reading with as many younger students as possible.
